Unstoppable Wave: What Is Your Posture?
September 23, 2018 12:11 PM PDT
The Apostle Paul had a really unique ability to tick people off. Pastor Levi Matteson preaches from Acts 14, explaining why some people walked 130 miles to stone Paul and what Paul's reaction was to it. Reality shows typically puts people together who are very different, people who would be unlikely friends in the real world.
The early church had some unlikely pairings also, but the Gospel couldn't be killed, like the invasive plant that is eating the South. The kudzu was first planted on roadside berms to prevent erosion, but it grows a foot a day and comes back stronger with every attempt to kill it.

Most people do not own their homes. The bank owns it, and each month you make payments until you eventually own it outright.
Continuing in the Unstoppable Wave, Pastor Levi Matteson challenges us to be Spirit Driven by allowing the Holy Spirit to indwell us more and more until we are wholly owned by God.

Peter is a paradox. A blue-collar fisherman who delivers a sermon where 3000 people were converted. A man who correctly answers Jesus, saying he is the Son of the living God, but then denies Christ three times.
Pastor Levi Matteson continues in our sermon series the Unstoppable Wave with the story of Peter, who didn't want to see God's grace bestowed on the gentiles. The politically correct thing in the day was for Jews to despise "the man," the Roman authority, and he wanted the Messiah exclusively for the Jews.
Salvation is exclusive, that is exclusively through Christ, but it is offered to all.

To be united with Christ is to be united with the bride of Christ.
Pastor Levi Matteson continues in our sermon series the Unstoppable Wave with the story of Saul, who on his way to kill Christians was encountered by Jesus who asked Saul why he was persecuting him. To persecute the church is to persecute Christ, and then Jesus plugged him into a local church.
If the church is the place for a bad dude like Saul to learn about Jesus, then it is surely the place for the average beachcomber to catch the wave of the gospel.

After Stephen was stoned, the church was scattered, but not like refugees, rather more like seeds.

We buy home exercise equipment because we believe exercise will make us healthier, but it doesn't do our bodies good when it's used primarily as a coat rack.
Pastor Travis continues in our sermon series the Unstoppable Wave with a story about Stephen, who was Sold Out to the Wave, both believing in Jesus and following him.

August 05, 2018 12:44 PM PDT
In the Book of Revelation, John describes his vision of heaven as a great multitude that no one could count from every nation, tribe, people, and language. The early church was also diverse, with Hellenistic and Hebraic Jews as well as Gentiles. We at Evangel do not want to wait till heaven to worship with people of all nations and backgrounds.
However, conflict is inherent when people come together with different viewpoints and needs. Pastor Travis Williams continues in the Unstoppable Wave talking about the Characteristics of the Wave, which included a level of trust in the early church that allowed them to address conflict.

The big kahuna is the boss of all bosses. In the surfing culture, the big kahuna is a wave 60-100 feet high, and it should be feared. Pastor Nate Marsh continues in our sermon series the Unstoppable Wave with the story from Acts 5 of two people messed with our Big Kahuna.

July 22, 2018 12:26 PM PDT
What is the nature of unbelief?
The Sadducees were the attempted wave breakers of the gospel. They were greatly annoyed by what Peter and John were saying, but they were astonished because these two were unschooled, ordinary men. They took note that these men had been with Jesus, and they were standing there with a man who had been crippled from birth.
They couldn't deny it. The facts are there. Yet their hearts were hard.
Pastor Levi continues in the Unstoppable Wave by helping us understand the nature of unbelief. It often goes beyond fact into something that is much deeper.
