Relationslips: Family Matters

What is the best gift you were ever given? It probably came from somebody who knew you well, who knew just what you would want, what would be good for you. Children are a gift from God, and he only gives good gifts. Now let's not screw it up.

April 08, 2018 11:55 AM PDT
When families don't talk about the elephant in the room, it's called dysfunction. Generally, there are three rules they follow. Don't talk about the elephant, don't think about it, and don't feel.
Levi kicks off a new sermon series on relationships with a lesson on how to tame the elephant. It starts with naming it. And then TALK. Trust. Accept. Listen. Keep calm.

April 01, 2018 01:12 PM PDT
April Fool's Day and Easter coincide for the first time since 1956. Some think Christians are fools for believing Jesus rose from the dead. We're no fools, but it's neither stretch nor slight to think his resurrection was a masterful prank.
The one they had thought they could kill and get rid of rejected hell. His rising mocks the killers who spat on him, jammed a crown on his head, and drove nails through his hands and feet. His rising mocks Satan who offered him the kingdom of this world, which Jesus declined. His resurrection overcomes the curse of this world and mocks the consequence of sin as he tramples over death by death.
Wouldn't you have loved to see Satan's face the moment he realized the scheme of hell didn't work. Easter is the greatest April Fool's reveal ever.

God has a plan for your life — for you to be redeemed and be with him in heaven. In the meantime, when we face suffering, we can be confident that he'll bring us through to the finish line.

March 18, 2018 01:24 PM PDT
Yoopers are aware of the piles of tailings and stamp sand left over from the copper mines. The byproducts of mining contains lead and other toxic heavy metals. We remember with fondness the copper boom, while we also acknowledge the scar it left on our land.
Death and suffering are the byproducts of life in a fallen world. There is tension between focusing on the blessings in this world to the extent that we ignore the reality of suffering and, on the other hand, dwelling so much in the suffering that we miss out on the joy of life.
Pastor Travis continues in the sermon series "The Luge: The Ride of Your Life" showing us that we can have Confidence in the Corners knowing that we have a God who is with us in our suffering. An abundant life is not a promise to avoid suffering, but an assurance that life is better with God.
The Scripture text is Romans 8:18-28. This is a podcast of Evangel Church, Houghton, Michigan, on March 18, 2018.
